Late Night Bridge

“Enough,” screams a bird, but guilt mocks
in all impossible voices,

and the kids hit the boy known for
his tongue no one else can understand.

A land gone wrong, creek flows beneath,
escapesan exile and a sojourn.

They turn toward me, “Hit him or
we’ll hit you.” And, I lift my left hand.

Reincarnation

The cat saunters away.
Sparrows stir, shake off their
bloody feathers. In this life
they want more grains,
want them now.
The shadow of the rood implodes
back into the churchyard.
A cloud multiplies to nothing. Nothing.

Masseur

You come home,
your back aching.
I touch your
turmoil zone.
The windows
flap their wings.
A storm will
arrive soon.
